I love Lucia from Lunar 2: Eternal Blue. I look up to her, I respect her, I’m cosplaying her this summer. She is one of my favorite female game characters.

When you first meet her, and she defeats hoardes of enemies with just one hand gesture, I was left in awe and pure admiration for this mysterious girl. She starts out without any knowledge of human emotion, acting almost alien. The one thing she cares about is her mission. And even after she learns about the power of the human spirit and love, unlike many other similar characters, she doesn’t “melt”. She doesn’t turn into a mushball or get chickified. She is still just as focused on her mission, but she now knows that her quest means much more than just simply restoring The Blue Star. It also means protecting her friends and all of the people she met. Even after it is revealed Althena is no longer alive, she continues her quest, not just for the sake of “duty”, but for the sake of protecting the wonderful people she met and helped her. She is proof that an ice queen doesn’t have to “melt”. …Also, she is FUCKING GORGEOUS. Her hair. HER HAIR!

That is why I love Lucia.

Special mention also goes to the character Jean from the same game, who has the same attack stat as the main hero, the highest speed of all the characters, takes down a child-abusing evil cult single-handedly by besting them in martial arts, and attacks with her bare fists.

Ubisoft is releasing an RPG game in 2014 called Child of Light, featuring a female protagonist. Like most games with female protagonists, it’s getting almost NO marketing and therefore no hype! Check it out, share it around. It looks really cute and I think we ALL want more video games with female protagonists to succeed!

Female Characters in Video Games

"The Walking Dead: Season Two continues the story of Clementine, a young girl orphaned by the undead apocalypse. Left to fend for herself, she has been forced to learn how to survive in a world gone mad.

Many months have passed since the events seen in Season One of The Walking Dead, and Clementine is searching for safety. But what can an ordinary child do to stay alive when the living can be just as bad — and sometimes worse — than the dead?

As Clementine, you will be tested by situations and dilemmas that will test your morals and your instinct for survival. Your decisions and actions will change the story around you, in this sequel to 2012’s Game of the Year.” (x)
